We opened the show this week with a track from Duffy called Mercy.
This week our special guest returning to Four Play was Morris. He last showcased Dead or Alive for us, back in June. This time he brought us a real education session on the origins and ongoing influences of the style of music known as "Hi-NRG".
Lots of great info and four fantastic 80's tracks.
Track 1: Do You Wanna Funk - Sylvester
Track 2: So Many Men (So Little Time) - Miquel Brown
Track 3: Native Love - Devine
Track 4: Searchin - Hazell Dean
Thanks to Morris once again for some really informative radio.
If you want to hear what Morris had to say, check out the podcast
Next up, An artist who at only 26 years of age has had some amazing success with his debut album. Not only that but we claim him as Australian, albeit he's really a bit of a citizen of the world and he's also out, gay and proud. He missed out on an ARIA award this year, but picked a year of strong contenders with the likes of Gabriella Cilmi and the Potbelleez.
We are talking about Sam Sparro and we showcased four songs from his self titled album.
Track 1: Black and Gold
Track 2: Cottonmouth
Track 3: Pocket
Track 4: 21st Century Life
Next, we took a look at the ARIA charts for the week. Into the dance charts this week has come a new track from the Presets. We thought we'd have a little listen to their new one "Yippeyo-ay" tonight. Let us know what you thought?
Next up, the Aretha Franklin.
Track 1: I knew you were waiting - Duet with George Michael
Track 2: You make feel
Track 3: Think
Track 4: A Deeper Love
And Finally tonight.. Hall and Oates
Track 1: Rich Girl
Track 2: Kiss on My list
Track 3: Private Eyes
Track 4: I Can't go for That
We hope you enjoyed the final show in the Spring Season. We're not going anywhere though, you'll find us in the same place for the summer season, 9pm - 11pm every Tuesday night!
See you then, and have a great week.
Jay and Chris
Our 51st show was another BIG show. Special thanks to Anthony Callea for coming in and sharing some time with us.
We opened the show this week with a band, not yet released in Australia, but sourced instead from Jay's secret source, straight out of SonyBMG in London (thanks Phillippa).
The band are The Hoosiers, their debut album was released in the UK earlier this year and their sound is reminiscent of The Cure and Jeff Buckley. They describe their sound themselves as "odd pop".
Track 1: Worried about Ray
Track 2: Goodbye Mr A
Track 3: Worst Case Scenario
Track 4: Cops and Robbers
Hope you enjoyed this peek into the london music scene.
Next up, joining us in the studio... A man who at only 25 years of age has some pretty big acheivements under his belt. He is an ARIA award winning singer, his debut single, a cover of a duet originally performed by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, was released in December 2004 and became Australia's fastest and highest single of all time, going 4 times platinum. A man who has toured with popular music greats such as Celine Dion and Diana Ross and whow recently has been trying his hand very successfully at stage performance. He is of course playing Boq in the amazing Melbourne production of Wicked.
Anthony Callea shared a number of great stories with us and also his genuine admiration for a couple of biggies of popular music in the last 3 decades, Elton John and George Michael. He brought to us his favorite selection of George Michael songs - a great selection.
Track 1: Amazing
Track 2: As
Track 3: I Can't Make You Love Me
Track 4: Don't let the sun go down on me (with Elton John)
If you want to hear what Anthony had to say, you can listen to the podcast.
A big THANK YOU goes out to Anthony for joining us tonight!
Next, we took a look at the ARIA charts for the week. We've been seeing "Get Shaky" by the Ian Carey project prominent in the Dance and club lists for week after week after week. This week it has entered the Singles charts at number 31. Interestingly JOY added it to the daytime playlists, way back on September 15! And we had a quick listen.
Next up, the Fine Young Cannibals.
Track 1: Suspicious Minds
Track 2: Johhny Come Home
Track 3: Good Thing
Track 4: She Drives Me Crazy
And Finally tonight.. The Carpenters
Track 1: Close to You
Track 2: We've only just begun
Track 3: Top of the World

Tuesday 11th November marked our 50th show and we celebrated with Gretel Killeen, Alex Hallahan playing LIVE and just an amazing show!
We opened the show with a bit of campery, the new Kylie and Danni duet ABBA cover "The Winner Takes it All". It's a song that is polarising our JOY audience, as was evident by some of the messages we received as it was playing......
Tonights first guest, Alex Hallahan, is a recently signed, local melbourne artist, who has just released his debut album, "The Turning Wheel", which is in stores now.
Alex talked about his journey as a musician and we touched on some very personal stories which have influenced at least some of his music. Additionally, for the first time ever on Four Play, Alex performed one of his songs ABSOLUTELY LIVE with just a guitar, his voice and a microphone. It absolutely blew both Jay and Chris away!
The tracks from his new album that we played were:
Track 1: Good Conversation
Track 2: As You Lose Control - Live acoustic in the studio
Track 3: As I Sleep
Track 4: You Make No Sound
If you want to hear what Alex had to say, you can listen to the podcast.
Thanks to Alex for coming in and allowing us to showcase this up and coming Australian talent!
If you want to know more about Alex, or see where he is playing go to http://www.myspace.com/alexhallahan
Our second guest tonight is a huge talent on Stage and Screen. Former host (the only one that matters!) of Big Brother for SEVEN seasons, accomplished childrens author, Stand-up comedian, single mother and all round really nice lady, Gretel Killeen, came in to share a Four Play set and entertain us with some really great stories.
Gretel is in town to reprise her role as narrator in the Rocky Horror Show, playing at the Comedy Theatre. She will be only on for a limited time, 10 performances only, November 11th through to November 20th. Limited tickets are available at www.ticketek.com.au
Gretel's Four Play set consisted of:
Track 1: I'm Kissing You - Des'ree
Track 2: Hedonism (just because you feel good) - Skunk Anansie
Track 3: It's not easy being green - Kermit the Frog
Track 4: Time Warp - Rocky Horror Show
A podcast of what Gretel had to say is available here
We love you Gretel! Thank You
Next up we took a look at the Aria Charts for the week and Jay managed to segway that into a slag fest on how he feels about Britney Spears recent single "womanizer".......
Our final Four Play for the evening, is another one for fun and frivolity.
We took a look at another four block buster movie soundtrack songs.
Track 1: Love is all around - Wet Wet Wet
Track 2: Kiss from a Rose - Seal
Track 3: We Don't need another Hero - Tina Turner
Track 4: Show me Heaven - Maria McKee
And because Jay really needed to make his point about Britney tonight, we finished with Womanizer - Britney Spears - Count the words!
Have a great week!
Jay and Chris
To celebrate our fiftieth show this week - GRETEL KILLEEN is coming in to play! Gretel is coming in to chat to us about what she is up to and play some favorites. Former Big Brother hostess with the mostest, and now for a limited time only the Narrator in the Melbourne production of the Rocky Horror Show, joins in a very special Four Play event. But that's not all! We also have Alex Hallahan coming in - he's a newly signed artist and he's not only going to showcase some of his music, he's actually going to perform LIVE in the studio for you. Tune in 9pm Tuesday night for all the fun and frivolityCatch you then.Jay and Chris
Four Play highlights and track listings for Tuesday 4th November.
Tonight a special Melbourne Cup day show. Special for a couple of reasons, first up it's Melbourne cup day, its the end of a four day weekend for some, and because Jay has been busy being the hostess with the mostest, at his and Garry's very own Cup day celebration spectacular, we both thought he deserved the night to "rest".
So, not only was I without Jay, but this was Chris' first attempt at running solo in a radio studio - let me know how I went - I need to know - if I was really bad, then I'll promise never to do it again!
I opened the show with "Camptown Races" , in celebration of the day. While best known these days for its use in the looney tunes cartoons, it was actually a song written way back in 1850 and was a comic song performed in a broad, stereotyped African American dialect.
My first Four Play of the evening continued our cup day theme, with four songs mentioning horses. Although, interestingly as it turns out, two tracks could just have easily been in a heroin based theme, but that was purely coincidental.
Track 1: Ride a White Horse - Goldfrapp
Track 2: A Horse with No Name - America
Track 3: Wild Horses - Rolling Stones
Track 4: The Horses - Daryl Braithwaite
For my second set tonight, we had Saturday Morning's Four Play expert football commentator come in as our special guest. Hamish brought us all up to date lots of great background information on the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. It was interesting and strangely continued our unofficial theme revolving around recreational drugs of dependency, yet again!
Track 1: Higher Ground
Track 2: Under the Bridge
Track 3: Scar Tissue
Track 4: Dani California
A podcast of what Hamish had to say about the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is available here
Next up tonight, given it's the end of a long hard party weekend for many, I decided to reprise a couple of cute, lightweight and fun four plays from some time ago.
first up - our Post Spice Girls Hits - showing just what the girls have acheived as solo artists (generally not much)
Track 1: Never be the same again (Mel C)
Track 2: What took you so long (Emma Bunton)
Track 3: Look at Me (Geri Halliwell)
Track 4: Out of your Mind (Truesteppers & Dane Bowers ft Victoria Beckham)
And lastly, a four play completely just for fun - Blockbuster Movie Title Song Hits
Track 1: When the going gets Tough - Billy Ocean
Track 2: Under the Bridge - The Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News
Track 3: Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jnr
Track 4: 9 to 5 - Dolly Parton
And dedicated to Jay, who of course we missed terribly during the show this week, we finished with Coffee - Supersister - of course!
Have a great week!
Chris xo
