Four Play highlights and track listings for Tuesday 28th October.
Tonight it was all about the 80's. Well mainly, with a couple of diversions thrown in for good measure.
We opened the show with Madonna's "Hung Up". Just because we can.
First Four Play was an icon of the early 80's. A band which featured Boy George on lead vocals, Mikey Craig on Bass Guitar, Roy Hay on guitar and keyboards and Jon Moss on drums and percussion. The band of course is Culture Club. They originally recorded in 1982 and were gone by 1986. They've reformed a number of times since 1998 for new releases and tours, including the Royal Albert Hall in 2002 for their 20th Anniversary.
Track 1: Do You Really want to Hurt Me
Track 2: Church of the Poison Mind
Track 3: It's a Miracle
Track 4: Karma Chameleon
Next up tonight, Cam came in off the front desk to bring us a Four Play of high cringe value! His theme for the evening was "People who left Neighbours to sing, but maybe shouldn't have!".
Some examples were ok, some were extremely bad.
Track 1: Don't it make you feel good - Stefan Dennis
Track 2: Mona - Craig McLachlan and Check 1-2
Track 3: Mistake - Stephanie McIntosh
Track 4: One of a Kind - Bruce Samazan
A podcast of what Cam had to say about these mis-adventures into the music world is available
Next we took a look at the ARIA Charts for the week, and screaming into the charts this week is Natalie Bassingthwaites first solo effort "Alive". So we thought we'd give you a listen to that one.
Good song Natalie!
Finally tonight, as promised last week, we took at look at ELO's most successful period when they penned the music for the movie-musical Xanadu in 1980. The Music of course also features Olivia Newton-John on many of the tracks.
Track 1: I'm Alive - ELO
Track 2: Magic - ELO and Olvia Newton-John
Track 3: All Over the World - ELO
Track 4: Don't Walk Away - ELO
And how could we not play it! Of course this poor movie, with highly successful soundtrack and ELO's only number 1 hit around the world...
we finished the night with Xanandu - ELO and Olivia Newton -John.
And keep an eye out for the stage show which hit broadway last year and was a runaway success. I'm sure we'll see it here soon.
Thanks for listening, we're exhausted! Hope you enjoyed the show and of course you can always let us know if YOU have an idea for a Four Play. Just email away.
Have a great week!
Chris and Jay.
Four Play highlights and track listings for Tuesday 21st October.
First up tonight, we started with an icon of the eighties, Bruce Springsteen. Track 1: Deep Red Bells
Track 2: Hold On, Hold On
Track 3: Train from Kansas City
Track 4: Mood to Burn Bridges
A podcast of what Grant had to say about Neko is available.
Our next artist is another icon of the 70's and 80's. A rock group from England who released eleven studio albums between 1971 and 1986 and another album in 2001. Most famous for their style of pop song with heavily classical overtones, and driven almost completely by one of their founders Jeff Lynne, who wrote and arranged all the groups orginal music. We are talking about the Electric Light Orchestra or "ELO".
Track 1: Livin' Thing
Track 2: Shine A Little Love
Track 3: Last Train to London
Track 4: Don't Bring me Down
Now ELO were one of the most successful bands of the 1970's without ever actually topping the charts. BUT... they did have a number one with the title track to the soundtrack for the film "Xanandu". ELO wrote and co-performed ALL the music on that movie.
So stay listening, we'll be showcasing a Xanadu four play NEXT WEEK.
Finally tonight, we took a step back into the 60's with a group that was incredibly successful, almost despite them continually breaking up and never being in the right place at the right time. We are talking about the phenomenal Simon and Garfunkel.
Track 1: The Sound of Silence
Track 2: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Track 3: I Am a Rock
Track 4: Cecilia
Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed the show and of course you can always let us know if YOU have an idea for a Four Play. Just email away.
