Welcome to the Four Play program highlights for 26th August, 2008
Let me start of with saying that the saddest part of the show was that Chris was not there……But.... it was CAMP!
Ben sat in for Chris and if you’re regular listeners you will know Ben and I are very into musicals. So we did the whole show on them. Let me tell you what we covered, if you missed it you will kick yourself.
First we started off with the fantastic “Chicago” the movie, from 2002. Starring, Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zelwegger, Richard Gere and Queen Latifah. It’s the story about a Vaudevillian singer/dancer that kills her husband and sister for sleeping together and is placed on trial. Roxy also kills her lover for not keeping his promise of getting her on the stage and she is also put on trial. The two are rivals and are both represented by Billy Finn, an over the top bullsh*t lawyer. He ends up getting the two girls off and they join together to become a big double act on the big stage.
Track 1 : Overture/All that Jazz
Track 2 : Cell Block Tango
Track 3: When You’re good to Mama
Track 4: Roxie
From here we normally have a special guest segment - but not this week - the musicals just kept on coming.
Ben and I covered off “ A Chorus line” 1985 ( My fav). This stars a very young Michael Douglas (Zack) as a Broadway Theatre Director. Zack is holding auditions for a Chorus Line, 4 boys and 4 girls. The movie takes you on a journey with the dancers and the experiences they are put through to make the second last cut to 17 out of thousands that try out. The dancers then tell Zack, one by one all about the trials and tribulations on how they got there today. It is an emotional journey. Zack then picks his final 8.
Track 1 : I hope I Get It
Track 2 : Nothing
Track 3: Dance ten, Looks Three
Track 4: One
Next up was “Moulin Rouge” 2001. Stars Ewan McGregor and Nichole Kidman. The movie is set in Paris red-light district of pigalle in 1890. It tells a story of a penniless writer, Christian (McGregor) who falls in love with a Courtesan, Satine (Kidman). Satine has a Duke who is infatuated by her and has placed a lot of money in the Moulin Rouge to convert it to a theatre and sets Satine to be the star, however Satine falls in love with Christian and the duke is not happy about it and tells her to leave him or he will kill Christian. She does her best to leave Christian by breaking his heart but he persists on telling her one last time he loves her. All the while Satine is dying of Consumption, and in the end dies, leaving Christian to write the story of his Love.
Track 1 : lady Marmalade
Track 2 : Elephant Love Medley
Track 3: Come What May
Track 4: Like A Virgin
Now at this stage of the show ben and I are Buggerred, we have been singing and dancing in the studio for an hour and a half, but we still have one more musical to go. Some would say we’ve saved an (oldie but goodie) to last.
Yes I’m taking about “Grease” which Stars Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, Stockard Channing. Set in Rydell high School in the 1950’s. Sandy (Newton-john) and Danny (Travolta) met in the summer and fall in love, however sandy is moving back to Australia at the end of summer. Danny goes back to school and Sandy’s plans change and she attends the same school. Danny is the ring leader of a male group called the T-birds. Sandy makes friend with Frenchy, a girl that is part of the Pink ladies. Through talks they realise that Sandy and Danny know each other and set up a meting. Danny is surprised to see her. All doesn’t go to plan. Danny acts cool around his mates and she doesn’t understand why he is so different from the summer guy she met. Danny tries to win her back by changing to be a jock, but isn’t very successful, so Sandy changes to a rock chick and the two hit it off.
Make sure you join us next week when Liam will be doing a flash back with Mel and Kim.
Chris and I will bring you the usual great show with floods of information. Make sure you tune in next Tuesday at 9pm
