Welcome to the Four Play program highlights for 16th September, 2008.
Tonight we had a great show - probably one of the most fascinating guests we've had so far and just a really great mix of music - if we do say so ourselves!
First up - we showcased a Californian rock band founded in 1986 - best known for it's lead singer Gwen Stefani - the band of course is No Doubt. The band was originally formed with Gwen, her brother Eric and John Spence. The release of 1995's "Tragic Kingdom" and the single "Just a Girl" allowed the group to acheive mainstream success....
Track 1: Just a Girl
Track 2: Hey Baby
Track 3: It's My Life
Track 4: Don't speak
Tonight, our special guest was JOY's very own sometime "informant" with Paul Anthony, Tuesday Brekky regular, occasional daytime presenter and that other job he does for the station - Sponsorships/sales.
David came in to speak about a favorite of his - the Pet Shop Boys. His angle however came from the perspective of his former position, at record company EMI when he was responsible for attempting to break the Pet Shop Boys onto a highly recalcitrant and rock oriented mid-eighties Australian commercial radio.
This would have to be one of the most fascinating journeys our guests on Four Play have yet taken you on. Great stuff from David!
Track 1: "Losing My Mind" performed by Liza Minelli
Track 2: "In Private" performed by Dusty Springfield
Track 3: "What have I done to deserve this" performed by the West End Girls
Track 4: "My Girl" performed by the Pet Shop Boys
So the first three songs were other artists performing PSB songs, then we finished up with the Pet Shop Boys actually doing a cover of a Madness song!

Thanks David - hope you'll come back sometime!
Now... last week, we showcased The Go Go's and we promised we'd get to Belinda Carlisle and we keep our promises. And before he left, David let us know that he was with Belinda Carlisle, in Chapel St, in Melbourne, when she purchased the dress seen in the film clip to Summer Rain. Thanks again David :-)
Track 1: Heaven is a place on Earth
Track 2: Mad about You
Track 3: Summer Rain
Track 4: Leave a Light on
Last up tonight - a bit of fun - we picked another four tracks from the title sequences from four James Bond Movies. We've done it before, but there were just too many good tracks to ignore this and not come back for another four!
Track 1: Nobody Does it Better - Carly Simon
Track 2: A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
Track 3: We have all the time in the World - Louis Armstrong (from On His Majesty's Secret Service)
Track 4: The Man with the Golden Gun - Lulu
That's it! As usual thanks for listening and thanks for checking out the Blog. If you want us include any other information here, leave us a comment, or send us an email at the links to the right.
Jay and Chris.

Hello,
The following is all in red
If you want to hear what David had to say, click on the link to the podcast. It's really great stuff!
so - you can't see the hyperlink to the podcast as the whole sentence is in red - it makes it very hard and frustrating as I looked all around the page to try and find a podcast link or icon. Maybe in future use a different colour for the hyperlink - it's fairly basic web copy practice so I though I should point it out.
Great show.
Quite Right! Sorry about that. I've fixed that up. Thanks for the advice. :-)
